2 YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT APPOINTMENT

Innovation Africa @ University of Pretoria is offering an opportunity to appoint interns as part of the mandate to increase the capacity available to the regulatory authorities of the country in the following completed fields of studies:

Study Fields:

.
  • PhD, MSc or BSc Honours (Agronomy, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Soil Science)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The successful candidates will actively participate in the following:
  • To perform screening of applications such as import permits, parallel/daughter, renewals, administrative changes, and transfer registration applications;
  • To evaluate applications such as import permits, parallel/daughter, renewals, administrative changes, and transfer registration applications;
  • To be trained by relevant experts on the technical or risk assessment review of inputs dossiers in relation to biological, residues, chemistry, and toxicological studies etc;
  • Preparation of technical reports or opinions requested in the format prescribed by the authorities;
  • Attend capacity-building training sessions in relation to various laws, regulations, and guidelines in relation to the applicable regulatory framework in South Africa;
  • Carry out administrative-related tasks i.e., filling of documents, updating databases manually or electronically etc;
  • Assist in the review and making inputs on documents such as guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs);
  • Attend workshops, meetings and ad-hoc tasks where necessary.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD (Agronomy, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Soil Science);
  • MSc (Agronomy, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Soil Science);
  • BSc Honours (Agronomy, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Entomology and Soil Science).

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Computer skills in MS Office package and email;
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Efficient planning, organising and prioritising skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Ethical insight and reliability;
  • Professionalism;
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
