Minimum Education Requirements
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Risk Management, or a related field. Relevant compliance or regulatory certifications will be an added advantage.
Required Experience
The role requires 5 to 7 years of proven experience in a Compliance position within the banking or financial services sector. Experience working with regulatory bodies, governance structures, and compliance monitoring frameworks is essential.
Core Compliance Competencies
The successful candidate must demonstrate strong knowledge of banking operations, compliance processes, and regulatory frameworks. This includes solid working knowledge of Market Conduct, POPIA, NCA, FICA, and related legislation.
Candidates must be able to develop compliance risk management plans, conduct monitoring activities, and analyse complex regulatory information to identify compliance risks. High accuracy and attention to detail are critical to ensure adherence to regulatory and internal policies.
Experience in providing compliance advice and training to internal stakeholders, monitoring regulatory developments, and adapting controls to legislative changes is required. Familiarity with compliance monitoring tools, reporting systems, risk management software, and data analytics is highly valuable.
Strong report-writing skills, policy drafting experience, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook are essential. Project management knowledge for tracking compliance initiatives is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities and Outcomes
Compliance Monitoring and Reporting
Assess and advise on compliance levels across assigned business units. Develop and implement monitoring plans based on identified risks, prepare compliance reports on time, and maintain an issues log to track remediation progress.
Advise management on deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, escalate non-adherence when necessary, and conduct regular audits and monitoring activities. Report findings to senior management and regulatory authorities as required.
Statutory Analysis and Advisory Support
Identify and analyse all laws and regulations relevant to Business and Commercial Banking activities. Develop and review compliance risk management plans, advise business units on regulatory obligations, and assess the adequacy of controls.
Compliance Programme Delivery
Support the rollout of compliance initiatives across departments, manage strategic compliance projects, prepare reports for governance forums, and ensure compliance controls are embedded in daily operations.
Policy Development and Training
Ensure compliance policies, standards, and procedures are in place, regularly reviewed, and updated. Issue compliance alerts, draft internal guidance, conduct presentations, support regulatory training initiatives, and monitor effectiveness.
Stakeholder and Customer Engagement
Build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Provide practical compliance advice, manage expectations, communicate progress clearly, and ensure fair treatment of all stakeholders.
Regulatory Engagement
Liaise with regulatory bodies, manage reporting, respond to enquiries, and coordinate corrective actions in collaboration with the business.
Professionalism, Teamwork, and Continuous Improvement
Collaborate with team members, identify process improvement opportunities, support system enhancements, and demonstrate professional conduct, accountability, and innovation.
Additional Responsibilities
Support the Line Manager and the Business and Commercial Banking Head of Compliance with additional tasks related to the Group Compliance function as required.
